What we’re about
We organize programs and events for the Scarborough Land Trust (SLT), a private, non-profit, community-based organization focused on conserving and stewarding land for people and wildlife—forever. SLT has conserved over 1600 acres in Scarborough; the natural and agricultural resources, scenic vistas, public access, wildlife habitat, and historical significance offer unique value to the broader community. SLT owns and maintains nine public preserves with parking and trails, open every day of the year. SLT’s mission also includes connecting people to these lands and each other through our programs, events, and volunteer opportunities. See some examples here:

If you appreciate any of the following, we encourage you to join us:
- Nature and the outdoors
- Open spaces and walking trails
- Learning about and experiencing local woods, waterways, and wildlife
- All-season group walks/hikes
- Educational events related to ecology, the environment and farming
- Forest bathing
- Socializing outdoors
- Family-friendly outdoor activities
We intend to post SLT programs and events here that would be of interest to MeetUp members. Many of our programs are free, but a ticket fee may be associated with registering for certain events.
By joining this group, you are not obligated to donate time or money to SLT. SLT is a 501(c)3 organization, so if you visit our preserves or participate in our programs, supporting the cause is entirely up to you, and much appreciated by us!
PLEASE NOTE THAT BY JOINING THIS GROUP AND/OR ATTENDING OUR PROGRAMS, YOU ALSO AGREE TO THE FOLLOWING AND FURTHER ACKNOWLEDGE THIS WITH YOUR EVENT RSVP:
• You agree to be respectful to fellow members and our RSVP system. If you cannot attend an event, please change your status at least 24 hours before (or direct message the host) so we can free up that spot for others. If you are a no-show at 2+ events, we reserve the right to deny your reservation for future events.
• You agree to the all the terms of Scarborough Land Trust’s Liability and Photo Release Form: https://scarboroughlandtrust.org/liability-and-photo-release-form/. You release SLT from liability and undertake physical and outdoor activities at your own risk, and are also solely responsible for preparing yourself for weather and the elements. Additionally, you acknowledge that the Scarborough Land Trust may use photographs and videos of its events and participants for promotional purposes on the SLT website, social media, newspaper, etc.

See all- Women's Walk at Scarborough MarshEastern Trail Parking Lot east of Scarborough Marsh Audubon Center and Nature Store 136 Pine Point Rd. Scarborough, Scarborough, ME
Come meet up with fellow women who enjoy the outdoors and have a desire to walk the wonderful open spaces Scarborough Land Trust has committed to preserving. Women are twice as likely as men to feel uncomfortable walking alone, so we created this monthly program to foster a fun and supportive community for women to walk together and get to know our preserves.
These walks average 60-90 mins in length with a leisurely pace as we observe the landscape and wildlife (migrating birds, wildflowers, etc). Bring binoculars or a camera if you are so inclined. Much of the terrain will be flat (either dirt or grass surfaces) but expect that there will brief uphill stretches, wood crossings for boggy areas, and some uneven ground (rocks, tree roots). Trails could be wet with dew or muddy if there have been recent rains, although we will postpone or reschedule if inclement weather is forecasted during the event itself. As always, we recommend wearing long pants, comfortable footwear, and sunscreen as appropriate.
Although most SLT properties are dog friendly, we ask that you not bring dogs to this event.
We will be meeting at the Eastern Trail parking lot on Pine Point Road (just past the Audubon Center). Parking is limited here so carpooling is encouraged.
