The Siskel is hosting a film festival this month to honor the iconic auteur Robert Altman. The schedule mirrors his filmography--the range is staggering.
McCabe and Mrs. Miller is Altman's 1971 neo-western that has inspired the visual style of many of today's directors. The movie stars Warren Beatty and Julie Christie, who earned an Academy Award nomination for Best Actress.
Vilmos Zsigmond's cinematography received a BAFTA nomination.
The film was deemed the eighth greatest western of all time by the American Film Institute in its AFI's Top Ten list in 2008, and in 2010 was selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry by the Library of Congress as being "culturally, historically or aesthetically significant."
Showtime is 6 pm, so let's meet 15 minutes before then in the lobby to get seats together. After the film we can grab a bite nearby.
Hope to see you there.
