The director of 2020's Best Picture winner Nomadland returns with another film that is a frontrunner to win the top prize at this year's Oscars.

Hamnet tells the largely fictional story of William Shakespeare and his wife, Anne Hathaway (Agnes in the film), and how their relationship is hit by the death of their young son Hamnet. Jessie Buckley and Paul Mescal portray the bereaved couple.

Hamnet is directed by Chloe Zhao and co-written by the director with Maggie O'Farrell. The film is based on the novel by O'Farrell.

Emily Watson and Joe Alwyn appear in featured roles.

The film had its premiere at the Telluride Film Festival to instant acclaim. As awards season heats up, this is one to keep an eye on, especially in the categories of Picture, Director and Actress.

David Ehrlich of IndieWire says that with Hamnet, "it would be hard to imagine a more fitting tribute to Shakespeare's most widely interpreted play."

The movie won the People's Choice Award at the Toronto Film Festival.

Showtime is 4:30 pm. Let's meet a half hour before then in the seating area near the bar to get seats together. After the show we can grab a bite nearby.

Hope to see you there.
