The legendary Diane Keaton recently left this mortal realm, but her legacy endures forever. The Music Box Theatre pays tribute to this singular artist with its first film for Bleak Week.
Looking for Mr. Goodbar is written and directed by Richard Brooks and is based on Judith Rossner's mega-best-seller that is based on true events.
Keaton plays a teacher of deaf children who is pulled deeper and deeper into a world of sex, drugs and darkness. Her journey into this world is chronicled with unflinching honesty and brutality.
At the time, Keaton was known for Woody Allen comedies and her secondary role in the Godfather films. Six months before Looking for Mr. Goodbar was released, Annie Hall premiered as a huge box office hit. The role won her acclaim, but the later film further showed audiences the thrilling depths of her talent as an actress.
The movie co-stars Tuesday Weld in an Oscar-nominated role and Richard Gere in his film debut.
