Helen Reddy fans, this is the time to rejoice.
The Music Box is hosting a rare screening of Helen's classic movie musical Pete's Dragon, released in 1977 and nominated for two Academy Awards.
In this classic Maine-set musical adventure, follow Pete (Sean Marshall), an orphan who is fleeing the terrible Gogan family (with parents played by the great Shelley Winters and Charles Tyner) aided by his invisible buddy, Elliott. When boy’s best friend reveals himself to be a fantastical, colorful dragon, the adventure really begins!
Once the two friends enter Passamaquoddy, they meet the bumbling Lampie (Mickey Rooney), the local lighthouse keeper, and his daughter Nora (Helen), who join the two on their journey.
Originally conceived as a two-part series for Walt Disney’s "Disneyland" anthology TV show in the late ‘50s, Pete’s Dragon was reimagined in the late ‘70s as a musical fantasy, blending live-action and animation following the successes of Mary Poppins and Bedknobs and Broomsticks.
The soundtrack includes the Oscar-nominated Candle on the Water, as well as I Saw a Dragon and Brazzle Dazzle Day.
Showtime is 11 am, so let's meet 15 minutes before then in the lounge to get seats together. The film is showing in the smaller Theater 3, so please buy your tickets ahead of time online to ensure you get a seat. After the movie we can grab a coffee nearby.
