The new film from the director of Cold War has arrived in Chicago, and the Oscar buzz is real.

Fatherland is a biographical film directed by Pawel Pawlikowski, who co-wrote the screenplay with Hbiendrik Handloegten. The picture stars Sandra Huller and Hanns Zischler and Erika and Thomas Mann, who embark on a road trip across Germany in 1949.

Pawlikowski was sent The Magician, Colm Toibin's biographical novel about Nobel laureate Thomas Mann by several film executives, but rather than adapt the entire book, he decided to focus on one particular episode--Mann's return to Germany in 1949. The director re-imagined the event, along with his co-writer Handloegten.

The movie had its world premiere in May at the Cannes Film Festival, where Pawlikowski won the best director award.

Fatherland is Poland's official entry for International Feature Film at this year's Academy Awards.

The film has a 96 on Rotten Tomatoes.

Showtime is 7:15 pm. Let's meet at 6:15 pm at Coal Fire just down the street to grab a bite before the show.

If you have time, please try to purchase your ticket at the theater before dinner to avoid a sellout.

Hope to see you there.
