Details

We will meet outside the Westminster station by Westminster Pier. Please take the exit 1 or 2 to your left. Please arrive at 11:50 for registration and for 12:00 prompt departure.

  • We will then make our way passing by New Scotland Yard, Ministry of Defence, Banqueting House, Horse Guards Parade, Duck Island Cottage, Clive Steps, Foreign & Commonwealth Office, HM Treasury and Churchill War Rooms.
  • We will then carry on via Cockpit steps to Queen Anne's Gate, a street with a highest concentration of blue plaques anywhere in London.
  • Our next stop will be Caxton Street, named after William Caxton, who established the first English printing press. This is the location of Caxton Hall, a former headquarters of Emily Pankhurst and the suffrage movement.
  • En route, we will also see the Albert pub, the only surviving Victorian building after Victoria Street was laid out in mid 1800s. We will carry via Grey Coat Hospital, Vincent Square, St Johns Gardens, Smith Square to arrive at Victoria Tower Gardens to see the Buxton Memorial (pictured above), dedicated to Sir Thomas Buxton, a co-founder of Anti-Slavery Society.

We will then arrive at Westminster Station where the walk ends.
Optional lunch/drinks at the end of the walk.

What to bring:
Comfortable footwear
Water
Photo-taking gadgets and chargers
An umbrella just in case (it's London after all)

The walk is free for members who have subscribed for an annual membership. For other members the fee is £5 cash/card on arrival to contribute towards the organiser's meetup fees and costs.

The annual pass option is £15 payable by cash or card on the day. This will provide access to at least 45 walks per year (members are welcome to bring a guest to each event).

All walks are free for the NHS staff (also welcome to bring a guest).

'No Show' Policy: If the member replied 'yes' but did not attend the event, did not update the RSVP and did not inform the organiser on 3 occasions – this triggers an automatic removal from the group. That's once for events with a waiting list.
