Details
An eleventh hour decision to do a Bank Holiday walk following a request. At this time of year the fields aren't just blue with bluebells, they're also ablaze with yellow buttercups, dandelions and other plants. This walk has both colours. It also has lots of twists and turns, with a stunning view around each corner, including of Gaddesden Place, where the 2016 Tarzan movie was filmed. From the historic hamlet of Frithsden and the Alford Arms pub (see gallery), our walk takes us to Potten End, Boxted Farm, Heizdins Wood and the hamlet of Nettleden. Distance 6 miles. Walking time approx. 2.5 hours.
The price for the walk is £2 to cover costs.
After the walk you can optionally stay for a drink or meal and a chat at the Alford Arms, which is an award-winning destination food pub.
Free Parking
Parking is easy here as the pub won't be open for an hour after we depart.
The Alford Arms has a wonderful philosophy of children, dogs and muddy boots welcome. You'll find a friendly atmosphere, good local ales, carefully chosen wines and delicious meals.
The post code for the pub is HP1 3DD.
Please note that this walk is not led by a qualified leader and, as such, isn't covered by insurance. Be sure to wear suitable boots and clothing. The organiser cannot be held responsible for any injuries, however caused. Members are expected to take responsibility for their own preparation and safety including adequate fluids, weather protection and a snack. Please be sure to make me aware if you have any medical conditions.
Dogs are welcome as always but please be mindful to keep them on leads for roads and around other animals. These events are not for children.
If you are unable to attend please be sure to change your RSVP otherwise our departure will be delayed. If you have any urgent (arrival related) messages within an hour of the start time please post them to the event's Meetup page comments.
