+- 18km in Kalmthout Heath (Kalmthoutse Heide)

Join us for a hike at The Kalmthout Heath (Kalmthoutse Heide in Dutch), one of the oldest and largest nature reserves of Flanders, situated on both sides of the Belgian-Dutch border. The enormous diversity of this nature reserve is of considerable ecological and cultural-historical value. Here, vast and unspoilt landscapes alternate with heathlands, fens, land dunes, forests, meadows and polders. The Heather (Calluna vulgaris) is in full blossom in August and now is the best time of the year to visit this beautiful park.

What to bring
- Hiking shoes
- 2L of water, it will be hot and there’s no option to refill your water bottles inside the park
- Sunscreen, protective clothing
- Lunch and snacks, we will have a lunch break during the hike

When: Friday August 15

Meeting Point: Station Heide. There’s a parking at the station for those who will come by car.

Meeting Time: 10:15 AM.
Please be on time. We won’t wait for late-comers, but you can send me a PM and I can share our live-location on WhatsApp so you can catch up.

Duration hike: 18 km, the hike is a loop.
Only sign up if you're fit enough to do a 18 km hike.

Estimated End Time: 16 PM (depending on group size and pace).
After the hike we will go for a drink near the station.

Weather
Hot and sunny (30°C).
Since the hike will be a combination of crossing the heathland and forest area we can’t avoid exposure to the sun.
