Reflections & River Lines: A Skills Building Photowalk
Details
Current and past students of the school and students who took part in the Texas Youth Photography Showcase are welcome to sign up for this skills-building photowalk
Join us for a photography skill-building-focused walk beginning in the Pearl District, one of San Antonio’s most visually rich urban spaces. With its historic brewery buildings, modern design, people, signs, textures, and river views, Pearl provides an excellent starting point for building stronger photographs before we move on to the Museum Reach section of the River Walk.
From Pearl, we will follow the riverside trail south along the Museum Reach, where public art, bridges, architecture, landscaped pathways, and reflections in the water create a strong outdoor classroom for photography. Along the way, participants will practice looking for reflections in the water, leading lines along the walkways and bridges, patterns in the architecture, layers in the landscape, and strong foreground-to-background compositions.
We will also pause near the Brooklyn Avenue Lock and Dam, where the mix of engineering, water movement, railings, textures, and reflections offers a great opportunity to practice composition, shutter speed choices, and storytelling details.
Rather than simply walking from one location to another, this photowalk is designed as a hands-on skill-building experience. Along the route, we will slow down, study the scene, and practice making stronger images by considering light, angle, subject placement, depth, timing, and visual storytelling.
The walk can finish near the San Antonio Museum of Art or return to Pearl, depending on the group’s pace, weather, and available time.
