"The Future of Degrowth" w/ Timothée Parrique
Details
With the almost overwhelming challenges facing us brought on by Climate Change, it is essential we understand and now adopt radical new ways of living, being, and organizing society.
Degrowth is a social and economic movement that challenges our existing growth-centered economic system. It includes a series of theories that examine the consequences of society's obsession with limitless growth and Western "development" models. Degrowth calls for curbing global consumption and production while creating approaches for an equitable and ecologically sustainable society, where social and environmental welfare supplants GDP as the primary measure of progress.
We are thrilled to have economist and researcher Timothée Parrique join us to share his work, research, and thinking on Degrowth.
Come explore the future of degrowth with us!
At the end of the talk will have a Q&A with Tim.

Timothée Parrique
Timothée Parrique (pronounced “tea-mo-tay pa-rick”) is an economist, originally from Versailles, France. He is currently a researcher at the School of Economics and Management of Lund University (Sweden).
He holds a PhD in economics from the Centre d’Études et de Recherches sur le Développement (University of Clermont Auvergne, France) and the Stockholm Resilience Centre (Stockholm University, Sweden). Titled “The political economy of degrowth” (2019), his dissertation explores the economic implications of degrowth.

Tim is passionate about philosophy of science and academic writing. When not ranting about economics stuff, Tim likes to surf, climb, and do backflips on his mountain bike – yes, it’s possible. (He also spends more time than he would like to admit playing chess online.)
He blogs at https://timotheeparrique.com and posts at @timparrique (Twitter), timotheeparrique (Insta), and @timparrique (Mastodon)
