The Quantum Universe | The Link between Cosmic Scales and the Quantum World

Exciting news everyone,

in this upcoming event, lecturer Prof. Dr. Mukhanov (Arnold Sommerfeld Center for Theoretical Physics, LMU Munich, Max Planck Medal 2015) will take us to the Link between the large structures of the universe and the quantum world.

This talk is given at the Public Observatory Munich. If the skies are clear, we are invited to visit the rooftop observatory after the talk and enjoy the views through the large telescopes.

About this event:

Prof. Dr. Mukhanov holds the chair on cosmology at the Arnold Sommerfeld Center for Theoretical Physics at LMU Munich (since 1997) and was awarded the Max Planck Medal in 2015 (among many more international awards). He is one of the pioneering minds – if not the pioneer – behind the linking of the grand scale structure of the universe, with its galaxies and galaxy clusters, with the quantum world. As early as in 1980/1981 he had made predictions on the influence of quantum fluctuations that were confirmed in the following decades by the COBE, WMAP and Planck probes, analyzing the Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB) in more and more detail.

We will meet at 19:30 in the courtyard (Volkssternwarte München, Rosenheimer Str. 145h), in front of the glass-door entrance to the observatory-building, and then go upstairs together for admission no later than 19:40.

Update from April 28th, 2023: There is construction work in the yard that leads to the observatories entrance door. Looks like this yard cannot be crossed anymore, but our meeting point is still accessible from a side way. I just added a map to the photo gallery of this event, please follow the way shown there (start at Anzinger Str. 13).
