Octobots Robotics (Team 9084) will demonstrate their 2024 robot–nicknamed “OCTAVE”–and explain how they designed and built it to compete in the FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC). Get an up-close view of the robot and learn how they solved design challenges. This team is based at Dos Pueblos High School, but is not part of the Engineering Academy. Students on the team gain valuable engineering experience through hands-on tasks performed with mentors and student leaders choosing their focus on the team, from CAD, code, wiring, assembling, business, management, and more to help the team’s success.
In their first year (2022-2023), the Octobots won the Rookie All-Star Award and the Innovations in Controls Award and made it all the way to the World Championship Competition in Houston, where they won the Highest Seed Rookie Award in their division. Last school year, they competed in three regional competitions and won the Industrial Design Award at one competition. Their robot’s performance earned them a prestigious invitation to the exclusive off-season competition, Chezy Champs, where teams from all over the world gather to give new team members a taste of competition at the highest level. The team is excited to learn the details of this school year’s FRC competition, titled “DIVE,” when the challenge rules are released in early January!
Location: Our speaker will present in person at Community West Bank conference room at 445 Pine Ave. off Hollister Ave. in Goleta, and on Zoom. When you register, we send a confirmation email containing Zoom data, directions to the in-person location and meal details.
