It's all about the characters

Details
I reckon we all know SF books that stand on the strength of ideas and plot, but where characterisation lacks depth. Well, this time we are interested in the opposite: SF books with strong characterisation, such that you create an emotional attachment to the characters!
As always, it's up to you to come up with a twist on the theme, if you wish.
But whatever your choice you are cordially invited to present one or more genre books (science fiction, fantasy, horror, etc) that fit this topic!
Afterwards we will have a casual and friendly chat about the books, about the subject of characterisation, and wherever else the conversation takes us!
You are of course welcome to bring the books you want to discuss, but it's also fine if you don't.
