Do we live in a Computer Simulation?
Details
For centuries philosophers entertained the question of whether the universe is an illusion. A modern take on this question is whether the universe is a computer simulation, like in the movie The Matrix. When researching this topic, I was shocked to see how much discussion is out there regarding us being in a computer simulation and how many people see this as a realistic possibility. The talk will first briefly address the illusion question and then move on to artificial intelligence. From there we’ll dive into the computer simulation possibility which will be the bulk of the presentation. I’m looking forward to seeing you Sunday, whether it’s you or the simulated you!
Construction on the 405: Be aware that there will be construction the 405 with lane reduction in both directions. Leave extra time. No problem arriving early because myself and others will be at the classroom early and we can socialize before class. Coffee will be provided.
Where: Bel Air Church, 16221 Mulholland Dr., L.A.
Room DC101, the corner classroom off the main patio.
When you enter the main patio level, one level up from the parking lots, the church entrance will be on your right and the classroom building on the left. We will meet in first classroom.
Parking: Park in one of the lower lots on either side of Mulholland just before the church. Walk or take a shuttle bus up the driveway to the main patio level. For handicapped parking, take the church driveway just after the lower parking lot and go up the hill to the top parking lot.
A.I. Article: An adequate discussion of A.I. deserves a whole meeting and Sunday we will only touch on that as the focus will be on the computer simulation question. For those particularly interested in A.I., below is a link to an interesting article published in February. No need to read it for Sunday’s talk.
