February Physics on the Rocks - 2026 Kickoff!
Details
The FIRST Physics on the Rocks of 2026!
Dr. Christina Markert, originally planned to speak at the December event, has been rescheduled for this event! She'll be talking both about her research and her own personal scientific journey in a talk titled Recreating the “Little Bang” in the Laboratory.
We'll also have a student talk related to "Hofstadter's butterfly" in condensed matter physics, and an interactive demonstration of electric discharge!
As always, we'll also have plenty of time to talk/socialize in between the presentations.

On the first Tuesday of every month, the UT Austin Physics department presents "Physics on the Rocks" hosted by Darwin's Pub and Piano Bar. This is a fun, informal event where physics faculty and students give a series of short talks on a variety of topics (ranging from the physics of beer bubbles to debates about the multiverse and everything in-between) meant to be accessible to a general audience. There's a lot of time to chat in between the talks and to ask questions of the speakers. Come have a drink and learn and discuss physics with us!
Stay afterwards for live music! It's a great venue and the owner is a fellow science enthusiast!
See Instagram for the event info.
