The Invention of Morel 🏝️ by Adolfo Bioy Casares - Book discussion
Details
What does the future look like from the perspective of different people & different cultures around the world? Our last book took place in Canada, and now we are moving down to South America. Mexican Nobel Prize winner in Literature Octavio Paz says: "The Invention of Morel may be described, without exaggeration, as a perfect novel." Invention of Morel, published in 1940 by Argentinian author Adolfo Bioy Casares, is considered possibly *the* best science fiction out of Latin America. In this novel, a fugitive hides on a strange island only to discover a group of elegant tourists who shouldn’t exist - and a machine that distorts time, reality, and love itself.
It led to a French TV adaption (L'invention de Morel, 1967) and an Italian SciFi film (L'invenzione di Morel, 1974). Adolfo Bioy Casares won the Gran Premio de Honor de la SADE in 1975 - Argentina’s highest literary honor.
