The Invention of Morel 🏝️ by Adolfo Bioy Casares - Book discussion
Details
Mexican Nobel Prize winner in Literature Octavio Paz says: "The Invention of Morel may be described, without exaggeration, as a perfect novel."
This year we are reading SciFi from around the world! Our last book took place in Canada, and now we are moving down to South America. Invention of Morel, published in 1940 by Argentinian author Adolfo Bioy Casares, is considered possibly *the* best science fiction out of Latin America. In this novel, a fugitive hides on a strange island only to discover a group of elegant tourists who shouldn’t exist - and a machine that distorts time, reality, and love itself.
It led to a French TV adaption (L'invention de Morel, 1967) and an Italian SciFi film (L'invenzione di Morel, 1974). Adolfo Bioy Casares won the Gran Premio de Honor de la SADE in 1975 - Argentina’s highest literary honor.
Happy reading and feel free to reach out to me beforehand if you have any questions! Next book is Altered Carbon by Richard Morgan (UK).
