What we’re about
Ever wondered why some SF imaginings seem to find their way into our realities? Join us for some relaxed friendly chat about your favourite science fiction as we delve into that question. (mainly books but also, movies, animation, art, whatever etc)
Share your thoughts about some SF you have read/watched and maybe get suggestions for your next.
A fun, relaxed discussion group for people with varying degrees of interest in sci-fi (defined in the broadest sense), from the casual reader of the occasional SF book to genre obsessives, all are welcome.
As well as a general chat about books we liked and why this group will lean slightly towards exploring when SF writing has accurately forecasted societal/technological developments, and why?
If you think that sounds interesting and fun then please come along and share your thoughts.
- This group is mainly aimed at people with a higher level of English but is open to English speakers both native and non-native. We will try to be as welcoming, friendly and accommodating as possible.
TLDR… waffle
- How do the concepts explored in SF writing reflect the anxieties, well-founded or otherwise, of the age in which they were written?
- What does contemporary SF literature say about both our current irrational fears and accurate concerns about what might be on the cards in our future?
- Many SF writers have professional backgrounds in the sciences, tech, and even politics and the military. What is the interplay between SF writing and these real works fields of knowledge, if any?
The above are some themes we might explore.
