What’s a ruck?
A ruck is simply walking with weight on your back—usually in a backpack or weighted vest. It’s low impact, builds strength and endurance, and is one of the most effective ways to improve your physical and mental well-being without needing a gym.
You don’t need to be an athlete to ruck. Just bring yourself, your pack (if you have one), and your willingness to move.
Why I’m doing this:
I’m Roddy—aka Ruckin’ Roddy—and I started this group because walking changed my life. After completing 3 marathon-length rucks (26.2 miles with 35 lbs on my back), I realized that the real power of rucking isn’t about finishing races—it’s about showing up every day with intention, getting outdoors, and feeling better, one step at a time.
I walk to stay grounded. I walk for clarity. I walk to stay strong and connected. And I’d love to walk with you.
What to expect:
We’ll meet in front of the Scituate Community Center just before 7:00 AM. From there, we’ll head out on foot toward the lighthouse, the harbor, or along the ocean—routes may vary, but the views are always good and the conversation is easy.
This is a casual, social ruck—not a competition. If it’s your first time, just bring a backpack with a little weight (water bottles, books, or bricks—whatever you’ve got). Or just show up with no weight and walk beside us. Seriously—no pressure.
This group is about movement, mindfulness, and making space in your week for something good.
Got a dog? Bring ’em. Dogs are always welcome. Just make sure yours is good on leash and friendly with others.
Why Ruck?
• It’s walking, upgraded.
• It improves posture and balance.
• It builds strength and endurance without pounding your joints.
• It helps clear your head.
• It creates community.
Whether you’re 45 or 75, just starting out or already active, rucking is one of the simplest, most effective ways to feel better, get stronger, and stay connected.
What to bring:
• A backpack or weighted vest if you have one
• Comfortable walking shoes
• Water
• Layers (weather depending)
• A good attitude and open heart
Bonus:
Stick around after for coffee or a chat at the wharf if you’d like. It’s not just about walking—it’s about connection. The goal is to start your Sunday with strength, simplicity, and maybe even a little joy.
