Scituate Harbor Sunday Morning Ruck – Walk Strong, Live Long

Details

Sunday Morning Ruck: Learn to Ruck with Awareness, Strength & Simplicity
Time: Sundays at 7:30 AM
Meet: In front of the Scituate Community Center, Jericho Rd
Length: 60–75 minutes
Pace: Steady and social
Focus: Posture, presence, and body awareness
Who’s it for? Beginners and anyone curious about how walking with intention can strengthen the body, calm the mind, and reconnect you to yourself and others.

What is rucking?
Rucking is simply walking with a little weight on your back—usually in a backpack or weighted vest. It turns your everyday walk into a functional workout that strengthens your legs, core, back, and heart… while grounding your mind.
You don’t need to “train” to start. Rucking meets you where you are. The walk becomes the teacher. Your body becomes the guide.

What you’ll learn in this session:
This isn’t a bootcamp. It’s a guided introduction to the art of walking with weight and awareness.

We’ll cover:

  • How to choose the right amount of weight
  • Backpack/vest positioning for optimal posture
  • The “rucking stride” – how to walk efficiently with load
  • Listening to body cues: breath, tension, fatigue, foot strike
  • How to adjust mid-walk for better posture and ease
  • Using the ruck as a mindfulness tool: breath + rhythm + presence
  • Why rucking helps strengthen bones, boost mood, and support healthy aging

Along the way, I’ll offer gentle reminders to check in with your breath, your posture, and your mindset—bringing mindfulness into each step.

Why I lead these walks:
I’m Roddy—aka Ruckin’ Roddy—and I’ve completed three marathon rucks (26.2 miles with 35 lbs on my back). But these days, I ruck for longevity, peace of mind, and the joy of simple movement. And I miss my coaching days at CrossFit Marshfield helping others have a fun workout.

I started this group to help others feel what I’ve felt: that a strong walk can lead to a strong life. You don’t need a gym. You don’t need to rush. You just need to show up, breathe, and take the next step.

What to bring:

  • A backpack or weighted vest (start with 5–15 lbs if you’re new)
  • Water
  • Comfortable walking shoes
  • Light layers
  • Optional: your dog (I love dogs)

Who is this for?
This is perfect for adults (especially 45+) who want to move better, age well, reconnect with nature, and experience how awareness + walking + community can change your life. No previous experience needed.

Bonus:
After the ruck, hang out for coffee or chat at the wharf. This is about connection, not just fitness. Start your Sunday with intention—and maybe make a new friend.

Let’s walk strong. Let’s live long. Let’s listen to our bodies, together.
Hope to see you Sunday morning.
– Roddy
