What weāre about
The Scottish Ruby User Group is a collection of people who are linked with Scotland and have an interest in Ruby and, invariably, Ruby on Rails. We meet every month for presentations from members and guests and a chat about Ruby and Ruby Related events. Everybody is welcome and there are no subscriptions/costs involved.

Hey friends š
Oh my gosh - itās 2025, and we havenāt met up in forever. After Haggis Ruby last year, weāve had counts on hands one meeting this year. Itās the longest break between meetups ever (donāt let the website tell you otherwise).
Anyway, with the summer winding down and the bounty of autumn heading our way, ScotRUG is back!
We'll have a meetup, a presentation, some lovely chat with other Ruby folks, and some learning.
Longtime ScotRUG member Colin Gemmell is going to give us a talk about work he's been doing to update the legendary JavaScript at his work:

Replacing React with HotwireUsing React back in 2011 for the front end of a interactive page was pretty much a no-brainer but at FreeAgent it never really worked out that well. With a dev team that is overwhelmingly filled with rails developers making changes to a critical part of the app written in React was slow work and often feel to a single team. Earlier this year we decided to start the process of removing React from the code base. In this talk I'll go through more of the motivation for removing react and how we have already replaced part of the react with hotwire and look ahead to how we might remove the rest.

This month, we're kindly hosted by FreeAgent - Accounting Software for your small business, built in sunny Scotland.
