Towards Machine Learning as a System Service

Details
Come along to the first Edinburgh School of AI Meetup! Meet like-minded colleagues and AI enthusiasts and learn more about the School of AI.
Our first talk will be: Towards ML as a system service: workflow automation
Speaker: Jose "jao" Ortega - Co-founder, Hacker at Large and CTO https://bigml.com
Description:
In order to really make ML a commodity available to any programmer,
we need to go a step beyond providing ready-to-use ML resources via scalable (typically REST/JSON based) APIs: automatization of arbitrarily complex ML workflows and algorithms without losing the simplicity and scalability already offered by SaaS solutions for modelling is a must. We'll explore present answers to the challenge using BigML's domain-specific language and services.
This talk will try to give you an introduction to these topics, using BigML to illustrate them (but without entering into the nitty-gritty details of the platform).
About the speaker:
Jose "Jao" Ortega was a physicist studying gravitational waves in a former life, and turned to computers by the end of last century. His first projects where related to telecommunications software and then moved to startups using AI and ML in the days of the first web bubble.
We are very excited to additionally host Mercè Martín who is happy to take any questions during Q&A.
About Mercè:
Mercè Martín has a Physics PhD and a BSc and has been working on electronic publishing and NLP, pioneering online services with her work in Enciclopèdia Catalana in the 90s and 2000s. She joined BigML 5 years ago and she is in charge of our client side, including language bindings, CLI and applications.
