About us
Scribe Sistas is an in-person writing circle for Black women writers of all genres and levels. This is not a critique group! We don't focus on tearing into each other's work. We definitely don't give harsh feedback unless you specifically ask for it. In our writing circle, here's what we do:
- Gather in cozy spaces like the public library, coffee shops, restaurants, or community spaces
- Share a quick check-in about our writing (no pressure to share your actual words)
- Writing sprints for 60 minutes
- Optional sharing and encouragement at the end
Why does this writing group exist? Writing can be lonely, especially when you are staring at a blank page on your computer. The intimidation stops there! As Black women who write, it often feels like we always have to do things alone. But...I want you to know that you don't have to! The Scribe Sistas meet in a few rotating locations in Oak Park, IL. You can join to find out our next gathering spot! We are excited to have you come write with us! Bring your laptop, your notebook, or just a willingness to write words on a page.
