How to Write a Musical! (Free In-Person Workshop)
Details
This new musical theater meetup, led by Conor Kyle at the Boyle Heights Arts Conservatory, is built for playwrights and composers who want to explore storytelling through music and stage. The session combines a short lecture with exercises and stage work, providing a crash-course of musical structure and song styles. Prepare and bring an optional musical theatre song if you’d like to perform and analyze the piece on stage! This session is open to all skill and experience levels as a space to experiment with character, lyrics, structure, and performance.
About the Instructors:
Conor Kyle has written for Shudder's Creepshow (2019) and placed twice in the Nicholl Fellowship with his scripts “Peter and the Wolves” (quarterfinals, also Launchpad top 10) and The Tube (semifinals). His screenplays have also been featured on the annual Hit List, Young & Hungry List, Spec Book, and on Tracking Board’s “Best Writers of the Year” booklet.
