Claudia Orozco-Gomez & Scrum Event Presents: How NOT to Teach Product to Engineers
If you’ve ever tried to explain “customer value” to someone mid-deployment, this one’s for you…
Once upon a time, a looooong-ago product manager turned agile coach (me), armed with a coaching goal to “improve product maturity” and just enough confidence to be dangerous, set out to teach software engineers about product thinking. What could possibly go wrong?... Spoiler: loads.
This is a story of good intentions, questionable methods, and the slow, often painful process of helping smart people shift from using cool tech to thinking in outcomes—eventually landing on something vaguely resembling product thinking. Come for the facepalms; stay for the things that are actually starting to work.
(No engineers were harmed in the making of this talk—just briefly caught in a loop of “Wait, are we refactoring the roadmap now?”)
About Claudia Orozco-Gomez:
Hi! I’m Claudia Orozco-Gomez—just another agile coach trying to help people work better together, on products, teams… and the occasional existential work crisis.
I’ve gone from project to product to people across startups, scaleups, corporates, and some grey zones in between. These days, I coach teams and leaders through messy change, fuzzy strategy, and the gap between “cool tech” and real impact.
I’m an Agile ancillaries geek, allergic to BS, and big on culture, collaboration, and continuous growth. And like many of us, just trying to pay the learning forward by sharing what I’ve picked up along the way.
