Scrum Event and Andriy Pluzhnyk Present - FBI Negotiation Skills

Abstract:

Why This Topic Matters. It seems like most Agile coaches still negotiate the way they were taught in school — build a logical case, present it, and hope reason wins. Then a skeptical executive blocks the transformation, a Product Owner refuses to slice the story, a team lead won't let go of command-and-control, or an HR policy "that applies to everyone" kills the experiment — and logic loses to emotion every time.
Agile coaches, Scrum Masters, Product Owners, and team leads negotiate all day long: getting buy-in for change, defending the sprint, pushing back on scope, surfacing impediments leadership doesn't want to hear. Rarely with the right tools.
Why negotiate instead of simply asking/offering? Because hostage negotiators don't get to "build a business case." They have minutes, no authority, and a counterpart who has every reason to say no. Sound familiar? The methods they developed under that pressure turn out to be exactly what coaches need when the stakes are high, the room is tense, and "being right" isn't enough.
What You'll Walk Away With

  • A different lens on why your most reasonable proposals keep getting blocked — and what's actually happening in the room
  • The shift from convincing to influencing, and why "That's Right" beats "Yes" every time
  • Confidence to walk into your next hard conversation - without bracing for impact
  • A new answer to the question every coach eventually asks: "How am I supposed to move this organization if no one will listen?"

That evening. This session. The kind of skills most people only encounter when it's already too late.
