How long have you been knitting? New enthusiast or old hand? What are your favorite knitting techniques these days?

I learned knitting when I was 10 yrs old from my mother. She taught me to cast on and knit and purl and I knitted a redsweater for myself. My next project was an afghan with very comlpicated cable and lace design which I learnt to knit by myself from a book . I have knitted all my life. I am ready to knit for my grand children now. I collect all kinds of yarn and all books. My library is like a small knit workshop. with shelves of yarn and knitting books.

What kind of objects do you like to knit? Do you keep 'em, sell 'em or give 'em away?

I knit everything from baby layettes to king size bed spreads with sweaters and shawls in between. I also knit christmas sweaters, ornaments, stockings and Halloween sweaters too. I designed a lot of tea cosies and a lace trim for the Martha Stewart coming Home Poncho knitted version.(alternate Version)

How did you start knitting? Who taught you and how did you catch the bug?

My family moved to New Delhi in North India which was very in winter. I needed a sweater and my dad bought yarn and needles and my mom taught me to cast on and knit and purl just enough to complete the sweater. I was 10 yrs old then. My next project was an afghan with 256 stiches and 10 for each side border. The pattern was 16 stiches and 16 rows with lace cables in it. I made a square afghan of 16 motifs wide and 16 motifs long. All summer vacation in my 7th grade By the time I finishes that I became an expert mistakes I made and ripping and fixing thru the pattern. Just try ripping and fixing a yarn over pattern in the middle of an afghan with 256 stiches on a long straight needle!!!! I kept knitting baby garments for my nephews and neices until the time came to knit again for my husband and baby layettes for my children.

What is one topic you want to learn more about in knitting or fiber arts, and why?

What Lakshmi M. is saying about this Meetup Group

I like the venue and I like the group. Like I said it will be nice to put 2 round tables on each side of the long table so all knitters can be seen instead of sitting separately in the back. I like the friendliness nd fel good sitting with this group and all are sharing. Iagain I state that I feel like coming every wednesday at the same time and finish all my projects. Thanks to the organizers. Today I am going to oakland to atten the knitting guild of America convention. Lakshmi
