SYNOPSIS:
The Rose of Versailles follows Oscar François de Jarjayes, a woman raised as a man by her father, who becomes the commander of Marie Antoinette's royal guard in pre-Revolutionary France; the plot intertwines Oscar's life, her forbidden romance with Swedish count Axel von Fersen, her loyal friendship with the frivolous Queen Marie Antoinette, and the burgeoning French Revolution, culminating in Oscar's tragic death fighting with the people and Marie Antoinette's execution, as the story explores class divides, duty, and love against a backdrop of historical upheaval.
