Ready to get outside, meet new people, and take on one of North County's best trails? Join us for a rewarding hike to the summit of Black Mountain!
The Nighthawk Trail Loop is a fantastic way to experience the open space park, offering a great workout and some of the best 360-degree views in San Diego. We'll time our hike to catch the sunset from the top, where on a clear day, you can see all the way to the ocean and beyond.

### Hike Details

• Difficulty: Moderate to Strenuous. The trail is well-maintained but involves a solid, consistent climb to the top. Expect some rocky sections.
• Distance: Approximately 4.5 miles round trip.
• Elevation Gain: Around 1,000 feet.
• Estimated Time: 2.5 to 3.5 hours total, including time to watch the sunset at the peak.
• Trail Type: Out-and-Back Loop.

### Important: What to Bring

• Headlamp or Flashlight: This is absolutely essential. We will be hiking down in the dark after the sun sets.
• Plenty of Water: At least 2 liters per person. The trail is exposed with little shade, so staying hydrated is key.
• Sun Protection: Hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen for the hike up.
• Snacks: Fuel for the climb and a post-hike reward at the top.
• Sturdy Shoes: Hiking shoes or trail runners with good grip are highly recommended.
• Layers: A light jacket or long-sleeve shirt is a must, as it can get very breezy and chilly at the summit after the sun goes down.

### Logistics

• Meeting Time: Please arrive by 5:15 PM to allow time for parking and introductions. We will start the hike promptly at 5:30 PM to ensure we reach the peak in time for the sunset.
• Meeting Spot: We will meet at the Hilltop Community Park parking lot, located at 9711 Oviedo Way, San Diego, CA 92129. The trailhead is easily accessible from the park.
