Full MoonNight: Joshua Tree Stargazing & Camping
Details
Join us for an immersive overnight experience under the dark skies of Joshua Tree National Park. With the moon out of sight, we’ll have the perfect canvas for stargazing, Milky Way photography, and the quiet stillness of the desert. This event is capped at 8 people to keep the experience intimate and the campfire conversations meaningful.
### The Itinerary
- Meeting Time: Saturday, May 30 @ 10:00 AM Sharp
- Meeting Point: Sabre Springs/Peñasquitos Park & Ride (Located just off I-15 and CA-56). This is a convenient midway point for those coming from various parts of San Diego and offers easy highway access for the drive north.
- Carpooling: To manage the limited parking passes at the campsite, carpooling is requested. We will coordinate drivers and passengers at the meeting point.
- The Hike (Sunday Morning): For the early risers, we will head out at 6:00 AM (debatable) for a moderate hike to Ryan Mountain. It’s a 3-mile round trip that offers the best 360-degree views of the park—perfect for catching that morning desert light before the heat kicks in.
### What to Pack
The desert is beautiful but unforgiving. Please ensure you have the following:
- Shelter: Tent (with stakes for wind), sleeping bag (rated for 40°F or lower), and a sleeping pad.
- Light: A headlamp or flashlight (Red light mode is highly recommended to preserve everyone's night vision for stargazing).
- Clothing: Layers are key. Temperatures drop significantly at night. Bring a thermal base layer, a fleece or puffer jacket, and sturdy hiking boots.
- Water & Food: At least 2 gallons of water per person. Pack a lunch for Saturday, a camp dinner, and quick breakfast/trail snacks for Sunday.
- Sun Protection: Hat, sunscreen, and sunglasses for the daytime and morning hike.
