FEATURED TALK FOR AUGUST:
Marco Carmosino - "Mo'Data, Mo'Problems"
"Big Data" makes it possible to develop fundamentally new applications: virtual assistants, intelligent mapping, and personalized medical interventions. But these big datasets represent equally big privacy risks; we regularly hear about millions of private records leaking. During this talk, Marco Carmosino (PhD Candidate, UCSD) will explain new algorithms that allow "big data" analytics without compromising user privacy, using existing applications from Apple, Google, and the US Census Bureau as examples.

LIGHTNING TALKS:
We're always open for people to share lightning talks. Feel free to sign up here: http://bit.ly/1Nsq9g8 (Google Form). Lightning talks are 5 minutes and a great chance to dip your toes in if you've always wanted to talk at SDRuby, but haven't had the chance to yet.

....

We meet the first Thursday of each month.

We'll start with networking over pizza and soda at 6:00.

Around 7:00, we'll jump in with a featured talk or two, and throw in some lightning talks and giveaways.

By about 8:30, we'll go out for beers and more networking.

Come for any or all of the fun!

All Ruby experience levels welcome!
