Volunteer Day! Let's Stock Little Free Libraries!

Details

By now, most of you know I love writing and reading books. A story is an escape from reality and can bring out those pesky feelings that remind us that we're all human. Why am I talking about this? Because I want us to help share the love of books and stories with others and help bring communities together.

Little Free Libraries are created and run by kind and bookish people in neighborhoods, public areas, or schools. These Little Free Libraries are a place where people can take a book and leave a book in return. These little book repositories help bring a community together, and they're just amazing!

The goal of this volunteer opportunity is for us to:

  1. Gather as many gently used books as we can from friends, coworkers, family, or other connections. (Books should be in decent condition)
  2. We will bring these collected books and meet together at the back of the DICKS parking lot. Address: 45 Gosling Rd, Portsmouth, NH 03801 @12pm
  3. We will form three teams (with epic team names) and divide up our book hauls equally into three vehicles. (If we get fewer people, we can just do one or two teams with one or two cars)
  4. Using the Little Free Library App (download for free from Google Play or the Applestore), we will deliver books and help fill some of the Little Free Libraries in the surrounding towns.

The three seacoast areas with a good concentration of Little Free Libraries are: 1) Rye, NH/Portsmouth, NH/Kittery, ME, 2) Stratham, NH/Exeter, NH/Newmarket, NH and 3) Durham, NH/Dover, NH/Somersworth, NH. Each team will take their portion of the gathered books, find the Little Free Libraries in their respective area, and seek to fill each Little Free Library they find (please don't overfill them).

Then, when we're done, we can meet for some food and drinks. I'll give you all my contact # on the day so we can update each other on how we're all doing. I'll put Hearth in Portsmouth as a placeholder for dinner/drinks, but we can decide on a different spot when we meet as well. I'm limiting this to 12 RSVPs (no guests, please) because we can be more nimble and flexible this way.

I will be one of the drivers and can take 3 passengers and two totes of books comfortably. We'll need two more drivers to volunteer unless we don't get 12 people to RSVP.

Half the fun of this is using the app and trying to find the Little Free Libraries.

This will very much be a test run. If this is successful, I'm down to make it an annual thing.

This is a rain or shine event. Wear appropriate clothing.

New people come to most meetups and we always welcome new people!

As always, feel free to message me for any questions or concerns.

I'm looking forward to this event. I really love books and Little Free Libraries. ❤️

Hope to see you there!
