Let's enjoy a quintessential NYC picnic in Central Park enjoying a sweet, June evening while the weather is still delightful. Our al fresco dinner will be followed by a free concert in the park by the NY Philharmonic along with fireworks! You're welcome to join us for a part of the evening or the entire night.

Please RSVP so I can make sure to save you space as it can get crowded.

PICNIC 6:30-8PM
While you'll bring a drink* for yourself & your own main meal (e.g., a sandwich), I'd also ask that you bring an appetizer, side dish, or dessert to share with the group. You can make or buy the item, but it would be lovely if it was international in flavor. For instance, Italian cookies from Whole Foods or the Muhammara I'm going to make which is a sweet & tangy Middle Eastern dip made from roasted red peppers, toasted walnuts, & pomegranate syrup.

And don't forget to bring a blanket or chair to sit on! Oftentimes, there are non-classical opening acts for the Philharmonic so there may be music in the background during our picnic.

NY PHILHARMONIC CONCERT 8-10PM
The program will feature Saint-Saëns's Bacchanale from Samson & Delilah, Bernstein's Three Dance Episodes from On the Town, Rimsky-Korsakov's Scheherazade, Jordan Millar's Boogie Down Uptown, & Camryn Cowan's Harlem Shake.

FIREWORKS 10-10:20PM

IS ALCOHOL ALLOWED IN CENTRAL PARK?
Alcohol is illegal in Central Park, HOWEVER, the city has decriminalized minor infractions such as drinking alcohol in public. This has resulted in many people drinking during events like the free concert. So as long as you're not causing a ruckus, you're over 21, & there aren't any warrants out for your arrest, sources say that you "will no longer be arrested for drinking alcohol. Officers in Manhattan will instead issue a civil summons, sparing those offenders a blemish on their record. If you're issued a summons & choose to plead guilty, you owe a $25 fine which you can pay by mail." -https://www.dnainfo.com/new-york/20160523/new-york-city/can-you-drink-public-nyc You take the risk & responsibility for your own drinking, however, if you do plan to indulge, sources say it's better to keep it on the down low (e.g., no red Solo cups, no wine glasses, keep bottles hidden in bags, etc.).

Side note: This event is posted in a variety of forums so the guest list is larger than what is shown here.

Every month, the Gypsies Ethnic Eating Klub (GEEK) gets together to eat delicious international food at a fantastic place around the city. All divers are welcome! Just make sure to RSVP so I save you a seat.
