Photography remains one of the best selling visual art mediums. Editing is a very big component of photography today. But let's not discuss editing, but selling. Explore how to do more with YOUR photography, including raising passive income that works with any day job.
He will discuss the 3 concentric circles of any art business and how to expand your reach into all 3 circles with practical steps you can mix and match to make progress, in fact to break any block. For anyone who wants to do more with their photography, to get their photography out there to earn some additional income, whether working part-time or full-time, and to make a difference with their art.
Ray teaches youth, adults and seniors with partners like he University of Washington, Bellevue College, Bellevue Botanical Garden, Seattle Public & King County Libraries, Seattle Chinese Garden, Vashon Center for the
Arts and the Swiftwater Gallery.
His teaching focuses on making more of a business of art for all art
mediums, painting to photography to ceramics, including how to go far beyond just the original using techniques like beeswax transfers. For photographers, he focuses on the power of compelling composition beyond just camera settings.
He is a Fellow and Board Member of the North American Nature
Photography Association. His photography, which is most often used to advance conservation and environmental issues, is represented by Getty Images.
Ray was a partner in Peter Arnold, Inc, a NYC stock agency specializing in science and medicine, an account executive for Minden Pictures, a CA stock agency specializing in nature and the Magazine/Publishing Liaison for Art Wolfe, team leader for his first self-published book, The Living Wild.
He received the University of Washington’s Legacy in Teaching Award in 2025. He has a BS in Biology from Yale and a MS in Environmental Management/Environmental Education from Duke.
