First Elastic Meetup in Düsseldorf

First Elastic Meetup in Düsseldorf

Details

Wouldn’t it be great to have a tech-break in between watching and celebrating football matches all over in the crowd?

Similar to our meetups before, we will have talks and invite you to join us for networking, drinks and socializing. The talks - as always - will be technical, covering real world use cases for the Elastic Stack. Watch out for updates in this group. We are looking forward to having you in Düsseldorf with your insights, questions and ideas!Join us for tech talks, food and drinks to discuss and share insights.

The high-level agenda is the following.

6.30 pm – food and beverages, socializing

7.00 pm – 7.30 pm

Ranges in Elasticsearch – Which options do I have? (Raytion)

Ranges are a great feature to allow end-users drilling into the data of search-driven applications.Elasticsearch supports different options for dealing with data ranges: While histogram and range aggregations can be used for requesting facet values, range filters are needed for filtering results. This presentation explains how to handle range aspects when developing a search solution.

(slides in English, talk in German or English depending on audience)

7.30 pm – 8.00 pm

Language Processing in Elasticsearch 2.x -- Why? Where? How? (Raytion)

Basic Natural Language Processing (NLP) strategies like tokenization or lemmatization can significantly improve retrieving the desired search results. However, they also impose additional load on the search core and therefore may lead to slower responses from the search engine. This talk will provide insights on why NLP matters in search, why it can be beneficial to outsource the NLP component to an external module, and how this can be achieved in Elasticsearch 2.x making use of the Solr PreAnalyzedField format.

(slides in English, talk in German or English depending on audience)

8.15 pm – 9.00 pm

Breaking relational borders (Swiftconsult)

Five years ago, the software persistence layer in projects was almost only about relational databases. Software developers are used to think in relational schemata and to build object-oriented applications on top of them. Elasticsearch significantly empowers applications with its document oriented approach and features. But how do you bring best of both worlds together? We reveal our journey from developing classic relational databases to elasticsearch driven applications, show off problems and point out important decisions to make. At least we present our hybrid approach which has been proven in many successful projects.

(slides in English, talk in German)

9.00 pm Q&A and networking with food and drinks

Furthermore, we are also looking for speakers for future Elastic meet-ups. If you do want to present feel free to reach out to us.
