We will sail five board boats from Shattemuc to Kingsland, where they will stay for the winter. This is always a fun event!
We need volunteers for the following activities.
Please state in the comments if you have a preferred activity.
- 5 sailors for the board boats
- 1 instructor for the safety boat
- 1 skipper and 1 or 2 crew for LunaSea (our keelboat)
- 1 driver to take the dockbox
- Extra people are welcome to come directly to Kingsland in the afternoon to help put everything away. (The time will be announced when we see the fleet's progress downriver.)
Our plan is to rig the board boats starting at 10:30 AM and launch the boats no later than 11:15 AM. LunaSea and a safety boat will accompany the board boats in case they need help.
Please bring your lunch, as lunchtime will be in the middle of our sail downriver.
The sail downriver is 6 miles and may be challenging, depending on wind and sea conditions. If we have too many volunteers, we will choose the most experienced sailors to sail the board boats. Less experienced sailors may sail together with more experienced sailors, or they may ride in the safety boat or LunaSea. The current is favorable, increasing from slack at 11:00 AM to 1.6 knots at 2:24 PM.
Cars will be available at Kingsland to drive people back to Shattemuc to retrieve their cars at the end of the event. People can also ride back to Shattemuc on LunaSea.
You must be a paid member of SEAS Westchester to participate in this event (not just a member of our Meetup group).
