WA Volcano Climbing Series: Mt St. Helen's Info Night with Mountain Guide Jason

Details
Learn about what it takes to climb the iconic Mt St Helens on skis or snowshoes this spring in this short informational session with Gearhouse's Head of Adventures, Jason.
You'll learn about the history of the mountain and learn what it's like to peer into the crater to see the mountain rebuilding itself after it infamously erupted in the 1980s removing most of the top of the mountain. Climbing Mt. St. Helens doesn't require mountaineering skills and is often the first taste of mountaineering without any training required. A Mt. St. Helen's climb is suitable for anyone of strong hiking ability in the summer or can be done much more efficiently in the winter on skis and snowshoes without the need for a permit. When you reach the top, you'll feel the immense satisfaction of the accomplishment and are often rewarded with some of the best views in the state of 3 of the other 4 Washington volcanoes.
You will learn:
- Why people like to summit/tour Mt St Helens
- How to tour Mt St Helens
- Basic fitness, skill level and safety considerations
If you are interested in climbing Mt St Helens, there will be a session after the presentation for members to begin forming a group of the ascent the following weekend. Please note: there is a mandatory planning night two days prior that you must attend if you would like to join the climb.
Free with the purchase of any drink (beer, wine, coffee, tea, non-alcoholic, and non-caffeinated options available) from Basecamp Cafe. $5 w/o cafe purchase.
