"It's all there in black and white!": American Prints of the 30's and 40's

This is the story of how an out-of-work actor in eighteenth-century Munich created a process that would become one of the world's most widely used forms of image-making, and what a group of talented American artists did with it.

The result is some of the best American art of any period, and a fascinating tour of the brutal transformation our country went through during the 1930s and 40s.

I'll first describe the times, talent, tools and techniques that made these prints possible, before heading into the gallery to enjoy some stand-out pieces and the artists who made them.
