Do you like great books, and or any of the following: eclectic food/nightlife/comedy/theater and great conversation? Seattle BIPOC+ Book Club and Events is the place to be!
Each month we'll pick a book to read (any genre that the group agrees on) then meet for a conversation about our discoveries. You will need to own a legit profile on Meetup.com so we can see you’re a real person.
All books are now available to purchase at Mam’s Bookstore. You can also contact them on IG if you have questions about their inventory @mamsbookstore
Anyone else in the group is welcome to suggest any fun event, just DM me!
Meetup charges $200/per 6 months, we ask for a donation on a sliding scale monthly or on a bi-yearly basis Venmo: @Maritess-Zurbano-1 we use it for fees and if we are able, to fund a cool party occasionally (or it just goes to fund 6 more months) We want to remove financial barriers for anyone participating.

Jawu bears the mark of a warrior king but lives humbly, selling swallows at the local market, saving up for the better future she’s determined to build for herself and her son. The pair reside in the Agbojedo community, a floating slum planted in the lagoon that gives Lagos its name. Just as rumours begin circulating regarding government plans for new developments that would raze their homes, Jawu spies a corrupt politician burying a nest egg of cash. Struck by her good fortune, she takes the money for herself, thinking this might be her way out. A little bit about the movie
Mghila Mountain, Tunisia, November 2015. When a jihadist group attacks two very young shepherds, 14-year-old Ashraf is forced to take a macabre message back to his family. Traumatized and trying not to lose his mind, Ashraf finds himself confronted with the powerlessness of his elders, abandoned by the authorities. Inspired by true events, Red Path is a dreamlike plunge into the wounded psyche of a child and his incredible ability to overcome trauma.
