Let’s Play A Game of Thrones!! @Phoenix Comics & Games!
Details
King Robert Baratheon is dead, and the lands of Westeros brace for battle. The great Houses of the Seven Kingdoms of Westeros, are vying for control of the Iron Throne using the old tools of intrigue and war. Will you take power through force, use honeyed words to coerce your way onto the throne, or rally the townsfolk to your side? Through strategic planning, masterful diplomacy, and clever maneuvers, spread your influence over Westeros! Yet while the war for Westeros rages, grave dangers gather in the cold North, and an ancient enemy is gaining momentum in the distant East.
A Game of Thrones uses Area Movement, Bidding, Hand Management, Order Counters, Simultaneous Action Selection, & Variable Player Powers. You are a member of one of the great Houses of Westeros rallying an army of Footman, Knights, Siege Engines, and Ships, as well as a set of Orders and the leaders of your House, which are in battles against rival Houses.
Each year is made up of three phases: the Westeros Phase, the Planning Phase, and the Action Phase. The Westeros Phase represents special events and day-to-day activities in Westeros. There are three different Westeros Decks, and each denotes a different global action, potentially affecting all players. The Planning Phase is perhaps the most important. Here you secretly assign orders to all of your units by placing one order token face down on each area you control that contains at least one army unit. This portion of the game emphasizes diplomacy and deduction. Can you trust the alliance that you made? Will you betray your ally and march upon him? Players may make promises to each other (for aid or peace, for example), but these promises are never binding. The result is tense and compelling negotiations, often ending in backstabbing worthy of Westeros! During the Action Phase, the orders are resolved and battle is entered! When armies meet in combat, they secretly choose one of their House cards to add strength to the battle. Finally, the Houses can consolidate their power in the areas they control and use that power in future turns to influence their position in the court of the Iron Throne and to stand against the wildling Hordes.
New players are welcome, and the host is happy to teach if you haven't played before.

A few important details:
- This event is scheduled to start at Noon PLEASE be on time! If you would like to bring a guest please message me.
- It's Cap Hill, so parking can be a challenge. Please factor traffic & parking into your commute and if you will be late post in messages or the Discord. Phoenix Comics & Games is about a block from several bus lines, the First Hill Streetcar (Broadway & Denny), & the Capitol Hill light rail station.
- If you need to cancel please do so as soon as you know. People on the waitlist and playing that day will appreciate it! Signing up for this event means other people are counting on you to attend; board games have both a minimum and a maximum player count, so with limited seats available, I want to be sure that those seats actually have people in them. Last-minute cancellations (less than 24 hours), no-shows, and late arrivals (30+ minutes) without good reason will be marked as no-show for the event and will be automatically moved to the waitlist if one forms for any and all future events they join which are hosted by me and other select hosts!
- SUPPORT THE VENUE! - Purchasing something isn't a requirement, but it's nice to do since we're using the space. Please support the business if you can!
- I open signups on Wednesday, 3 days before pressing the "announce" button here on Meetup; if you want to have the opportunity to claim a seat early, you can join the SBG Discord, where I'll post to let users there know as soon as RSVPs open as well as updates and posting polls for future meetups!
