This is a four-part Sunday series exploring the evolution of one of the most beloved modern strategy games: Viticulture. Across four weeks, we’ll experience how the design grew from a strong worker-placement euro into a richly layered vineyard simulation with new strategic paths, tighter decision spaces, and fresh regional character.

Whether you’re new to the game or a longtime fan, this is a rare chance to play the lineage and see how thoughtful expansions reshape a classic design.

I'll teach. Be sure to watch the instructional videos (title links) if new to the game or any of the expansions.

👉 You can attend individual sessions, but we strongly encourage signing up for the full series to experience the game’s design evolution.

Week 1: Viticulture: Essential Edition (2015)
The modern classic that launched it all. Players manage rustic vineyards in Tuscany, assigning workers across the seasons to plant vines, harvest grapes, fulfill wine orders, and attract influential visitors.

  • Elegant seasonal worker placement system
  • Balanced engine-building and tactical timing
  • Welcoming depth—approachable but strategically rich
  • Strong theme that ties mechanisms to winemaking

This edition refined the original design, tightening balance and improving pacing—establishing Viticulture as a staple eurogame.

Week 2: Viticulture: Tuscany Essential Edition (2016)
Tuscany transforms Viticulture into a deeper, more strategic experience.

  • Expanded board with four seasons instead of two
  • Specialized workers with unique powers
  • New structures, maps, and strategic flexibility
  • Greater long-term planning and spatial tension

Many players consider Tuscany the “full expression” of Viticulture—where timing, specialization, and infrastructure choices truly shine.

Week 3: Viticulture: Visit from the Rhine Valley (2018)
This expansion replaces the original visitor cards with a new deck focused purely on the business of winemaking.

  • Visitors now center on wine production and vineyard strategy
  • Reduced swinginess from powerful “one-off” visitor effects
  • Greater emphasis on core engine efficiency
  • Smoother competitive balance

Rhine Valley offers a more grounded, strategic tone—beloved by players who prefer tighter optimization over surprise combos.

Week 4: Viticulture: Bordeaux Expansion (2026)
The newest chapter in Viticulture’s evolution introduces a distinct regional identity and fresh strategic terrain.

  • A new regional board with different spatial and economic pressures
  • Alternative pathways to wine prestige
  • Evolved systems reflecting years of design refinement
  • A fresh meta for experienced players

Bordeaux shows how Viticulture continues to mature—preserving its core while exploring new strategic landscapes.

## 🧠 Why Join the Full Series?

Most board game expansions are played in isolation.
This series lets you experience design history in motion:
➡️ How a strong core system becomes more expressive
➡️ How player agency expands across editions
➡️ How small rule changes reshape strategy
➡️ How modern euro design matures over a decade

If you enjoy strategy games, design evolution, or Viticulture itself, this is a uniquely rewarding journey.
