Gobangiri is a Japanese film that weaves a tale of tradition and modernity. Set against a picturesque rural backdrop, the story follows the journey of a young samurai caught between his duty and personal desires. With stunning cinematography and a poignant narrative, Gobangiri explores themes of honor, love, and self-discovery, making it a must-watch for fans of historical dramas.
Kakunoshin Yanagida was a samurai, but was forced out of his Han due to a false accusation. Though he now lives in poverty with his daughter Kinu, he never gave up his pride and honor as a samurai. He always acts in a fair manner, even in his hobby of Go. Later, the truth behind the false accusation is revealed and Yanagida is shaken and filled with rage. He decides to seek revenge, even if it means he will be torn from his daughter.
Note: the language of this film is Japanese. The English subtitles that come with the bluray were clearly done with software alone, and left a lot of room for improvement. I have done my best to retranslate the subtitles, but have not double-checked the entire film.
