Hope you can join us for a fun evening of string quartet music with the Aelous Quartet. They are a great young string quartet known for an excellent sound and quickly gaining a lot of momentum, and were quartet in residence in Juilliard just a few years ago and in Music Vivo now.
The first work on the program is Beethoven's first string quartet, which is a rambunctious and fun early piece by him. Following is a work by one of my favorite composers Grażyna Bacewicz, which is a fun piece packed with excellent virtuosic writing. This piece is one of the turning points in her career and was written in response to the Warsaw Uprising in the 40's. Musically it has a little bit of everything from passionate lines, thorny material, to fun romps. Her compositions are some of the most undersung works of the 20th century and a rarity to hear live, so I hope you'll come out for it!
The final work on the program is Dvorak's 13th string quartet, which was written in his period of using folk music to inspire his compositions. The second movement in particular is one of my favorite slow movements in all of string quartet repertoire.
For those who haven't been, ECM is excellent music in a much more casual/friendly setting. We will plan to meet up before the performance and during intermission in the main lobby - I'll be there starting 60 minutes prior (7:00pm).
