Around the same time that the Symphony is playing Stravinsky's ballet music for the Firebird, Pacific Northwest Ballet is performing the Firebird, along with two shorter modern ballets. At $25, the dress rehearsal is an inexpensive way of seeing the performance. PNB may be only ballet company in this area that has a live orchestra. The music you will be hearing is:

Igor Stravinsky: The Firebird (1910)
Richard Einhorn: Maxwell’s Demon (1988-1990)
A collection: Beirut (“A Call to Arms” and “La Banlieue”), Andrew Bird’s Bowl of Fire (“Beware”), (“See How They Fall—Dans Les Champs De Ble” and “A Self-made Hero—Theme de Heroes”), Philip Glass (“Glassworks/Analog: Orange Mountain Music Archive: Closing”), Hans Otte (“Wassermannmusik), Max Richter (“The Haunted Ocean 5” and “November”), Tom Waits and Kathleen Brennan (“Fawn”)

For those who would like more background information, there is a lecture downstairs at 5:30 on some aspect of one of the ballets, and in the past, these lectures have been lively and informative. The dress rehearsal, which begins at 6:30, is under two hours in all, including intermission, likely finishing by 8:30 pm.

This is PNB's description: "The Firebird is back after a 20-year hiatus! Ming Cho Lee’s breathtaking sets, the epic Stravinsky score, and choreography from PNB Founding Artistic Director Kent Stowell work in harmony in this theatrical one-act ballet. Balanced perfectly by Alejandro Cerrudo’s most playful work, Little mortal jump, and the rock ‘n roll drama of Ulysses Dove’s Red Angels, this fiery production will keep you on your toes from start to finish."

I am proposing that we meet at 6 pm in the first tier balcony (that's the balcony that is just above the ground floor) and get in line for the first-come-first-served seats in the auditorium. The seating from this tier is the closer one to the stage (there is another tier above). If you would like to attend the lecture, it finishes later, but you can still meet with the group during intermission, also on the first tier balcony.

Those who are interested can go for drinks and eats afterwards at a restaurant within walking distance of McCaw Hall.

Use the link below to buy tickets in advance. I don't think you can buy them at the door.
