Chamber Music at Emerald City Music
Details
Hello,
Hope you can join us for a fun evening of chamber music centered around harp and clarinet! The first work on the program is a magical virtuoso showpiece for the violin and harp by Saint-Saëns, showing the limits of the harp at the time while still having fun. After, is the Coleridge-Taylor Clarinet Quintet, which is an incredibly lively work with melodies inspired by spirituals and in a style reminiscent of Dvorak.
After a brief performance of Debussy's classic harp concerto, we'll get the meat of the evening: an octet written by the American/French composer Loeffler scored for 2 clarinets, string quartet, harp, and bass it is one of the most unusual and delightful instrument combinations. One of the clarinetist featured in this performance reconstructed the piece from the library of congress and it is now getting its first performances and recordings in over a 100 years. His recording is now up awards including from Gramophone Magazine, The Times and others.
For those who haven't been, ECM is excellent music in a much more casual/friendly setting. We will plan to meet up before the performance and during intermission in the main lobby - I'll be there starting 60 minutes prior (7:00pm).
