Enchanted Valley | Olympic National Park
Graves Creek Trailhead, Graves Creek Rd, Quinault, WA, USSummer Solstice
There are places in Olympic National Park where the wilderness gathers itself into something more than mountains, forest and river — places where distance becomes a kind of pilgrimage. Enchanted Valley is one of those places. And it's only fitting to honor the longest day of the year in the Northern Hemisphere (June 21) with the longest day hike of the year. The route stretches 28 miles round‑trip — a long, steady passage through one of the most storied valleys in the Pacific Northwest. We follow the East Fork Quinault River Trail as it winds deep into the heart of the park, tracing the river's restless voice through ancient groves and shadowed corridors of moss and stone. With each mile, the forest reveals another face — spruce rising into the light, moss‑draped bridges spanning cold water, glacial streams cutting through stone, and the Quinault's immensity echoing through the valley.
At the far end of the valley, the historic Enchanted Valley Chalet emerges — standing solitary beneath sheer walls streaked with waterfalls, a lone sentinel in a vast wilderness amphitheater. On the return, the valley settles into gentler light — warm, dappled sun drifting across the path as the Quinault guides us home in its slow, evening quiet.
A fitting tribute to the solstice.

Carry the full set of Ten Hiking Essentials. Pack everything you think is necessary for you on the hike, but nothing else - the idea is to keep the pack light while not skimping on any necessary gear, so we can move faster.
Wildlife is abundant in this valley (especially bears) — which is enchanting, but requires preparation and caution. Bring bear spray. This is remote backcountry; come equipped and ready.Disclaimer
