HistoryLink Pike Place Offices Tour

HistoryLink has given us a very special opportunity to tour their Pike Place offices. The tour will be lead by Executive Director Jennifer Ott. The tour is free but limited to 20 participants.

For those interested in history, HistoryLink needs no introduction. Founded by Walt Crowley (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Walt_Crowley) Marie McCaffrey and Paul Dorpat, it has been the goto source for Seattle and Washington State history for decades. HistoryLink is the nation's first original online encyclopedia of community and state history. Launched in Seattle in 1999—beating Wikipedia by two years—the free digital resource is run by the 501(c)(3) nonprofit History Ink to document the people, places, and events of Washington state. HistoryLink was built on the principle that local history belongs to the whole community. Unlike crowdsourced platforms, it commissions articles from paid historians, journalists, and subject-matter experts to ensure accuracy and thorough footnoting.

ABOUT THE SEATTLE HISTORY FIELD TRIPS MEETUP

We are amateur historians with an interest in Seattle. Newbies to Seattle are most welcome. Once a quarter, or so, this group organizes a field trip to visit sites which are significant in Seattle's history, and to share what we know about them. In the past we have visited the gravesites of important personages and the locations of famous events. This Meetup is for anyone who has an interest in Seattle's history or who would like to learn more about the founding and growth of Seattle and the surrounding cities, towns, native peoples, highways, dams, natural resources, industries, famous events & dignitaries, famous visitors, etc.
