Our mission is to support hobbyists and professionals alike by providing an accessible, inclusive, hands-on environment for creating interactive experiences, collaboration, networking, knowledge-sharing, professional development, and personal creative expression.

Virtual Dreams: Future XR Creators Program March 28 — Ideas and Scope

Empowering the Next Generation of XR Creators
Seattle Interactive Media-Lab (SiM), in partnership with AGOG, is launching Virtual Dreams, a free 12-week program designed to empower young creatives and underrepresented youth in XR.
Through mentorship, hands-on workshops, and collaborative projects, participants will:- Learn XR development tools
- Design immersive experiences
- Connect with industry professionals
- Build community with peers
- Graduate with a portfolio-ready experience
The program builds toward a three-part hackathon and a final public showcase.

When: Saturdays, 10am to 4pm (lunch and snacks provided)

Who: Ages 16 to 24
Cost: Free, with transit stipends available***

### March 21 — Introduction, Onboarding, Team Building
Kickoff session introducing the program, participants, and core tools. Focus on building community, meeting collaborators, and setting expectations.

Learn how to generate ideas and define realistic project scope. Participants begin shaping early concepts and understanding what makes a strong, achievable project.

### April 4 — Foundations of Human-Centered Design
Introduction to human-centered design principles. Learn how to design with real users in mind and identify meaningful problems to solve.

### April 11 — From Empathy to Ideas
Translate user insights into actionable ideas. Develop clearer problem statements and begin forming strong design directions.

### April 18 — Prototyping Basics
Learn how to quickly prototype ideas using simple tools and methods. Focus on iteration and testing early concepts.

### April 25 — Paper Prototyping
Create low-fidelity prototypes to test interaction and experience design. Fast, flexible, and collaborative experimentation.

### May 2 — Designing the Experience
Refine your project into a cohesive experience. Focus on flow, interaction, and user journey.

### May 9 — Hackathon Prep and Portfolio Presentation
Prepare for the hackathon phase. Finalize ideas, organize teams, and learn how to present your work professionally.

### May 16 — Hackathon Part 1
Begin building your project with support from mentors. Focus on core functionality and early implementation.

### May 23 — Hackathon Part 2
Continue development with iteration and feedback. Strengthen your project and refine key features.

### May 30 — Hackathon Part 3
Finalize projects and prepare for presentation. Polish, test, and get ready to showcase your work.

Present your completed project to peers, family, and industry guests. Celebrate your work and share what you’ve built.
