Synopsis: A struggling playwright is cornered into having dinner with an old friend, leading to an unexpectedly profound conversation.

MY DINNER WITH ANDRE (1981), directed by Louis Malle, consists almost entirely of a dinner conversation between two old friends at an upscale Manhattan restaurant. Written by and starring Wallace Shawn and Andre Gregory—who use their real names—the film covers diverse topics from experimental theater and the purpose of art to relationships and depression. What begins as a casual “catch-up” gradually becomes a captivating study of how we make sense of our lives.

About the venue: Seattle Public Theater is a nonprofit that helps make live, innovative theater accessible to everyone. The building is a 100-year-old bathhouse that was converted into a playhouse in 1970. It sits directly on the walking path that circles Green Lake. Fresh popcorn, cookies, soda, beer, wine and cocktails will be available for purchase.
